The information here provides the expected season costs for a player. The values given are only approximations and function as a guide and not a guaranteed total season cost. This is a summary of the expected season costs document which is available at the bottom of this page.

Subscriptions
All members must pay subscriptions (subs) in order to play hockey. Subs are used to finance pitch hire, coaching, transport, equipment, and other necessities. Higher teams pay larger subs than lower teams as they have greater expenses. Many colleges will reimburse subs, and players should check with their college, and our information guide, whether or not this applies to them. Members eligible for university means-tested scholarships and bursaries may receive reduced subs in cases where there are substantial financial barriers to play.

Subs can be paid either upfront, in a single annual payment, or termly via direct debit (DD), signed up to at the start of the season, all through Pitchero. Every player will pay a £30 ‘Club Access Fee’, at the start of Michaelmas Term, which is included for annual payments, and for termly, comes as an initial payment when signing up to the DD. The DD will come out of players’ bank accounts at the end of each term. Players will have subs assigned to their Pitchero baskets, based on which team they are invited to preseason for. Should a player play more than 50% of games in a term for another team, they are liable to a refund/further payment for that term. The expected costs are as follows:

Financial Support
OUHC is always happy to accommodate those who are struggling with subs. Players can contact the Treasurer or Welfare Secretaries if they are worried about club costs and we will do our best to make an arrangement that suits everyone. If a member is injured for a large part of the season or cannot play for another reason, this will be taken into account, and they should contact the Treasurer if this is the case.

Giving back to the club
Players can earn money from the club through umpiring (either OUHC or college matches) and through coaching. There is a form to claim money for umpiring or to be reimbursed for petrol when driving to matches. These claims will be accumulated and paid back termly.
