Our Club

Social

As the largest mixed sports club at the University of Oxford, OUHC is rivalled in its sporting prowess only by the enviable variety of socials and events that its members enjoy off the pitch. We pride ourselves on how integrated members become across our teams to form friendships that last long beyond their time at University. The social calendar begins in pre-season and includes events ranging from black-tie dinners to casual lunches and quiz nights, all of which contribute to players recalling hockey at Oxford as such a valuable part of their student experience.

Yearly Events

  • Christmas Dinner: A fantastic celebration of the first term of hockey, welcoming all our new members into the club for their first club formal.

  • Varsity Ball: Following Blues' Varsity, a night for the whole club to honour the very best of Oxford hockey.

  • End of Season Dinner: The end of the competitive season, where we recognise the achievements of our teams, coaches, and players.

  • Summer Tour: The big finale. After what is often a hectic Trinity Term of exams, allowing players to are able to unwind and get out of the Oxford bubble.

Weekly Socials

  • What are 'Crewdates'?

    • Crewdates are what many teams chose as their weekly socials as a way to meet other sports teams and get to know each other better over food and games. They are informal and a really fun way to make friends throughout your time at Oxford.

  • What is Vinnies?

    • Vinnies (Vincent's Club) was established in 1863 as a space for sportspeople from across the Oxford sporting scene. Members of OUHC enjoy Saturday evenings spent quizzing, lunchtimes catching up with friends, and cocktails in the summer all courtesy of this brilliant club.

  • Informal socials

    • Players enjoy more relaxed socials such as brunches, lunches, social tennis, pub trips, and lounging the in parks throughout the year.
