Captain's Welcome
The men’s blues have had a season of real highs and lows, with some frustrating results unfortunately leaving us stranded in the depths of south central for another season, but equally some moments of magic throughout the year against top opposition including a memorable playoff win mean that we have retained our BUCS national premier status for a 4th consecutive season in the top flight of university hockey!

As is always the case in BUCS, we had the privilege of going head-to-head with some top teams and looked to target specific fixtures that we felt would deliver the points we needed. A chaotic and thrilling 4-4 draw with Newcastle left us in a difficult position, but a gritty, determined performance away at Bath earned us the additional point we needed to secure our playoff spot, and the rest was history. A galvanized blues side showed up to the fortress deep into the easter vac on a day that was to go down in OUHC folklore, securing a brilliant 4-2 victory against a strong title winning Cardiff and Met side that keeps us alive and fighting for yet another year in the top flight.

Saturday league was a different story however, some solid results had us well poised at third in the table going into the Christmas break. However, an injury crisis and some disappointing weekends along with a lack of consistency meant that any hope of a late title change had slipped away well before the end of the year. The boys will look to come back stronger with ambitions of returning to the England Hockey National leagues next season.

As always, the blues varsity match is a real highlight on the calendar. Being a part of a fixture steeped in such history and fierce rivalry, all played out in front of family and friends on a beautiful day in north London is a real privilege, and it is always a lovely moment to watch the efforts and commitment of your teammates and friends be rewarded as they step out on to the pitch and earn their blues. Unfortunately, we were on the wrong side of a well contested encounter this year but I can say with confidence that this has only served to fuel the fire for us to come back stronger and better next year to set the record straight.

The men’s blues is a dynamic, fun, and competitive environment made up of an eclectic mix of brilliant characters and talented athletes. We are always striving to maintain a social atmosphere that is welcoming and enjoyable for everyone whilst performing at the highest level.
