South Central Division 4 North
The Men’s 4th XI, a.k.a. the Sporadics, is in many ways the life-blood of OUHC. On and off the pitch we strive towards the club’s overall ethos of achievement and enjoyment, and our extremely high standard of hockey, despite being the lowest team on the Men’s circuit, is a testament to the strength and depth of the club. Like the Women’s 4s (the Renegades), the Spos are a fairly new team formed by popular demand, and since their inception these two teams have been jewels in the crown of OUHC; we have proven our right to exist through commitment and results.
This season we are looking to take things to the next level. Our primary ambition is promotion from the Men’s North Division 4, of which I firmly believe we are capable. Since we do not compete in BUCS, the League constitutes our one competitive match per week, and I see this as a strength: we have added preparation time for fixtures and a simple aim which we can work towards with unadulterated effort. There is a huge amount of talent in this team which, frustrated by the pandemic, will be raring to go come September.
The buzzword for the Spos this year is unity, both as hockey players and as people. I want the Spos to look forward to being together, be that at training, on away days or at socials, because unity breeds commitment, enjoyment, and ultimately, success.
I can’t wait to get stuck into the season with this wonderful bunch of boys.
