Captain's Welcome

The Men’s 4th Team, commonly as the Sporadics, can truly be described as the heart and soul of OUHC. We are a team joined together by an indescribable bond of brotherly solidarity on and off the pitch. Whether its our diehard commitment to our majestic playing style characterised by our commitment to battle-tasted strategy, the ‘Spaerial’ being a particular crowd-pleaser, or our unbeatable efforts on Wednesday socials, it is a team which has truly earnt its place at OUHC.

 

Proud participants of the South Central Men’s Division 4 North League, our Saturdays are spent playing various local clubs in the surrounding area, which means we get a great deal of variety in the teams we play. Playing in the League means that we do not play BUCS, however in many ways this a strength to our game as it means that we only have one weekly game to worry about which allows us to focus our training attention on a clear objective. However, a paramount aim is to reinstate our domination in the annual Oxford-Cambridge varsity game; the highlight of the year for our team. After an uninterrupted seven year streak, our supremacy has been briefly interrupted – however, I am confident that with our current drive, as well as an addition of a few fresh faces we can bring the game to them come February.

Why join the Sporadics? One word. Camaraderie. This team is more than just a team – it’s a family. Underpinned by a love of the boys, we are a group of lads who remain committed to the two core tenets of the Sporadics – playing hockey but also having a blast whilst doing it.
